This is great! Just ordered one. I suppose the extra investment of time will make losing the lure more painful...but it's a bitter sweetness.Tag Error In Message

Nice. I came out after a 5 day trip with no fire!??

Great news for cool weather camping. Does anyone know if the fire ban would keep someone who fell in the lake about now from building a fire to warm some one up? I'd think the emergency would overrule the ban as long as the fire was small and put out as soon as possible, but maybe they would say you should just strip down and get into dry clothes instead.

This was what I was praying for. I thought for sure they would wait until Oct 1st, so happy for people going in this weekend.

Wait, when they say "not tall," does that mean you're not supposed to heap firewood on top of the grate?

Kidding...mostly...

Happy Friday! We're lifting fire restrictions across the forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness management area. This means that visitors will again be able to have campfires at designated fire grates in the BWCAW, and in the forest at rustic and backcountry campsites. This announcement also means the use of tiki torches, charcoal grills, barbecues and other stoves is permitted.
Rain and cooler temps lessen the chance of a fire becoming established, however, fires can still start with the right set of conditions in he fall. Help us minimize the chance of unwanted fire by practicing the following:
?? Camp only at designated sites and use official fire grates for your campfires.
?? Keep your fire small, not tall!
?? To ensure your campfire is fully extinguished before leaving the fire unattended, drown, stir and touch your campfire to ensure the fire is dead out. Repeat until it is cold to the touch.
?? Use fire starters and/or kindling, rather than flammable liquids to get your campfire started.
?? Avoid parking vehicles over tall, dry grass (vehicles cause more acreage burned than any other equipment).
??: Cooking a meal over a fire at a designated fire grate in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
