12/18/2025 08:13AM It kind of depends on what type of fish you want to catch Knife lake has everything, and the South Arm is scenic & would give you lots of time to fish, but it is a pretty crowded area. Cutting down to Kekekabic is a little quieter. We made it there in one day, with a tow to Indian portage / Birch lake, but it was a tough day. Heading south through Wisini to Fraser is neat. You can backtrack to where you put in, or move more often through Thomas, Ima and Jordan,Cattyman (falls) Ashigan and back out to Ensign for a pickup at Splash. Ashigan is a good lake for bass. I thought Thomas & Ima & Ensign were too crowded. If you go in at Mudro, Gull is a neat lake, but only seemed to have pike, but it is easy to day trip back to Gun. Horse lake is awesome. Ge-be-on- e-quet was quiet and had good walleye fishing. Getting there from Moose river north passing through Oyster is scenic. If it isn't too windy going through Agnes to LLC is your best bet for fishing of all sorts, & a fun area to explore. *I should add it's easy to get out to LLC from Gebe, either for day trip or to camp, also* Basswood falls area is really beautiful, but you are dealing with bigger water if the weather is bad. In good weather it is pretty hard to beat. We haven't gone there directly from Fall lake, though. There's a lot of traffic through there, due to motorized areas nearby & it is a through route. For the best fishing, I've found the lakes people pass through and don't stay on for long or at all can be a pretty good bet. Hi from another Texas tripper! |

12/15/2025 10:56AM I would try and head in at Mudro or Fall Lake and make your way up past the waterfalls towards Crooked. The walleye and Bass fishing on Crooked is typically lights out that time of year. Boundary Waters Outfitters |

11/23/2025 11:55AM I like the Moose River to LLC idea. Here are several others that should be on your radar. Fall Lake entry to the Basswood Falls region. Both upper and lower are nice, but we spent a couple of days camped at the top of Lower Basswood Falls. Hard to beat that for scenery. Little Indian Sioux North - You could be in Snow Bay - North Lake area in a long day. Very scenic area. Devils Cascade is along the way to Loon Lake. If you want more work, you can head to Finger Lake, Pocket Lake, and Ge-be-on-e-quet Lake. We loved that route. We went counter-clockwise but you could go clockwise or go end to end from LIS North to Moose River. Lake One to Insula, Alice, Thomas, and/or Frazier. Those will take more work but I think they check your boxes. How about a tow up Moose Lake to Splash or Birch Lakes. Ensign, Knife, or South Arm of Knife are your destinations. Those certainly check the box for scenic and great fishing. Hope you have a great trip. |

11/20/2025 12:53PM I really like the paddle from Moose River to Lac LaCroix. LLC offers so much to see and do. Great fishing, beautiful campsites, pictos, waterfalls, Warrior Hill, etc. |

11/16/2025 07:10PM Mudro entry to Gun, Gull, and further on to Thunder or Beartrap. Fairy is a super cool little lake. Maybe a side trip to Moosecamp and take the river back(Depending on water levels).Lots of good scenery and many good campsites and good fishing to be had. One of the most popular permits so if you are inclined, be on the reservations website at 9am on permit day to try your luck. They sell out quick. |

11/11/2025 09:34AM All, I have been tripping in the BWCA for many years and I have my own ideas but thought I would see what others are thinking. 1.Out of the Ely area - What entry and area do you consider to be the most scenic? 2. What scenic area would be the best fishing? I know this is what everyone wants. This will be a trip during the 1st or 2nd week of June. Five nights. Would be a group of 5-9. Thank you in advance! |
