Congratulations on a successful 1st solo trip. The small lakes from Lizz to Omega are my favorite area of the BW so far.

Sounds like Mr. Wind was there to keep you company. :) Yes, it can be very very draining physically as you battle a head wind by yourself. I've got 3 and 1/2 weeks till my solo and I have vowed to take the canoe out on Sat and sunday for training runs on the lake. I hope it helps prepare me to fight that inevitable wind.

I love the shot of the loons you got. And it absolutely sucks when there is something nagging your brain about back home. I try to block out home as best I can but it's really impossible.

Well, I hope you can do another one sometime. We learn as we go. Next time will be better.

Sounds like the solitude helped you clear your head. Nice trip report.

Day 2 is why I like to carry a GPS - I don't normally run in while traveling, but it's nice to be able to turn on for a minute if you're confused about which of those 5 identical bays you're in.

Day 3 is why I bought a drift sock - it does a rather nice job of saving you paddling when drift fishing by slowing you waaay down.

Certainly not necessities, but they can make a gloomy day a bit brighter from time to time.

Hey R,
Thanks for the report! Enjoyed it. I remember my first solo trip almost as if it were yesterday and all the crazy mistakes I made. Sounds like you had it all together, tho.

I put in on Sawbill a week later (solo, too) and had the same wind problem. No mater what direction, it was in my face. That's really hard as a solo. I can't imagine trying to fish in it.

I enjoyed the "lessons of the day" and you having the opportunity to take stock in your "other life". You get a good chance to do that when soloing.

Thanks again.
