Finally got a chance to read your awesome report!

I agree with your assessment. IMHO that stretch from Brandt to Green is one of the tougher sequences of maintained portage trails in the BWCAW. I was also particularly interested in reading (and seeing the photos)about the stretch from French to Lil' Sag. I actually camped at the southern site on Powell lake on a solo a few years back. It was fascinating to see how the area is coming back. (To date, the site on Virgin lake still qualifies as the worst I've ever seen.)

Anyways, Thanks for taking the time to write up a great report & share your awesome pictures.

quote TomP: "A very good report. We have stayed on the island site at Tusc. It is pretty nice. I like the fall colors, I need to go on a fall trip sometime. Did you mention what site you stayed at on Little Sag? Looked like a nice hike for the pictures overlooking the lake."

We entered Little Sag from Virgin Lake. There's a narrow opening from that bay to the main lake. From that opening we headed SE along the east shore. It's the site on the east shore just before you turn east to head to Mora Lake. It's site #533 on the map of Little Sag in the map section.

It's a fairly small site but did have 2 decent tent pads. You have a fairly steep hike up to the latrine. Once on top, you can go either direction for some nice views, unobstructed by trees due to the Cavity Lake fire.

that was a fun read. I was with you the whole way,as I have traveled those same lakes before. I often wonder, why paddlers bring a weather device to prepare you of what comes. part of the trip is the element of what happens, imho. anyhow, that's just me. nice job.

Nice report. I especially liked the sunset sequence. I took my daughters through part of that route last August. We went in from Brant to Gillis. We too, took advantage of some great views due to the forest fires.

I really enjoyed your Trip Report and Photos. The fall colors were beautiful during that time. That was a great photo of the Bald Eagle taking off. Have fun planning your 2013 trip.

Thanks for the trip report and nice photos. I entered Cross Bay on the 25th and traveled east, exiting at Poplar. I experienced very nice weather and fall colors in a nearby area. Little Sag looks like a place I'd like to get to sometime.
