If you are ok with rustic (and by rustic, I mean rustic), the Snowshoe Cabins between Isabella and Finland, MN are perfect. Complete with wood-fired sauna. It is very remote and a ton of opportunity for skiing and snowshoeing.

Two other cabins in the UP of MI are Mckeevers cabin and Tom's Cabin both South of Munising, MI. Just google either name to get info on them. they both aren't too far off the road, but you could always come into them from a different direction and get a longer trek in.

I feel the reason most cabins are not too far from a road is due to the fact a lot of the cabins have the wood provided for you. So the people supplying it don't really care for a long way in with it. A lot of places supply it due to the fact they don't want the users of the cabins cutting trees down for firewood.

Another idea is Little Presque Isle cabins on Harlow Lake by Marquette, MI. You could always snowshoe in from a different location other than the parking lot.

You could do some of the cabins or yurts up at the Porcupine Mountains in MI. Lost Creek Yurt is quite a ways out, as you have to snowshoe out from the Visitors center.

The Tettegouche Camp cabins are accessed by ski or snowshoe in the winter. Lots of options for skiing, snowshoeing and fishing once you get there. You do share the general area with other people staying in the other 3 cabins, but it is a really unique and beautiful spot. You have to reserve early though if you want to stay over a weekend.

Here are a few websites.

Boundary Country Trekking
Log Cabin Hideaways
Snowshoe Country

If you are interested in yurt to yurt travel there are several places that offer that as well.

Hello all,

I'm interested in a trip where we have to snowshoe or cross-country ski a long way to get to a remote cabin. I've done some searching on this website (and others), and I see a lot of remote cabins you drive to and then snowshoe once you get there, but I haven't found any where you have to do some significant hiking to actually get to the cabin. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

-Ben
