Will be awhile before Matt and I probably make it up to the BWCA in the winter again until Harley is older, but we have been doing some overnights around home!

I've also seen some winter tents on ebay, both canvas and nylon ones.

GuestPaddler, if you don't mind I'll toss some ideas out there and BC can add as he likes. Hot tenting isn't a crowded world (yet) so there are not used tents and stoves all the time, but they do definitely pop up for time to time. CL is a good option, and be sure to include A wide geographic area. Also watch the For Sale / Wanted section of this forum, and especially watch the Classified section on the Wintertrekking.com forum. Keep in mind that about 80% or so of the folks on Wintertrekking are Canadian, so with exchange rates may have tents worth buying and shipping. Also don't be afraid to post Wanted To Buy - you might just nudge someone to sell who is thinking of trying a different tent themselves.

We stayed in one of the walk in sites that was at least 400 feet in - so we felt adequately secluded... snowshoed 10 miles yesterday on the SHT near Caribou Falls. Can I call it winter camping if it was 50? I think considering our campsite had at least 18 inches of snow all around it, and if you broke through the snow pack on the trails while snowshoing it went up above my knee, then yes... yes I can ;-)

Was always going to rent one of the cabins on top from the old resort that was present. It is a walk in setup. It would be a nice trip for anybody.

Went out in January and February. Both were warm trips, not even dipping below zero. But in Feb, quite a nice snow amount off the Gunflint around the Bearskin area. Trout were biting but were shagging my lures like nothing.

Making a second trip within the next two weeks. Hoping travel conditions improve but if not there are always places to where not much travel is needed.

Was supposed to go out 2 weekends ago, but woke up to pouring rain which continued all day. RAIN!!! My 12 year old was bummed but we made the most of the weekend bumming around Duluth.

I've had a couple weekends out with the Troop. Our next weekend isn't for a couple more weeks, I'd almost peg that as a Spring outing.

My two planned weekends got overrun with work, and I didn't go. And I just bought a (use) winter tent and stove. Did so one weekend with Troop in January - so warm it turned into a mudder. I didn't bother bringing the new tent or even a lot of winter stuff because of the forecast.
