For one base camp trip with a single minor portage, I took my regular back yard camp chair. It was heaven in camp. Full size and comfy!

It was NOT heaven on the portage. I strapped it under the canoe seat to be able to single portage. At the landing for the next lake, it caught on the pack I had on and both canoe and I toppled into the water!!

I do own a Helinox chair one. Can't cook from it, but like it for relaxing as long as I don't have to get up very often (knees).

These have been a great addition for us.

We've been REI Flex-Lite users to this point. However, the wife saw and loved the Helinox swivel chairs. I poo-pooed the idea due only to the slight increase in bulk. I lost - we now own a couple. One advantage has occurred to me though, and that's while I'm cooking. I always put a stove on the ground and set a chair near it to do my thing from. I expect the swivel will make grabbing stuff adjacent to the stove (seasoning, utensils, oil, another few filets, etc.) easier.

The rocking chairs. . .if you are talking about GCI.. .are 13 lbs each and don't appear to fold down as well as "bag chairs" or Helinox.

We have tried every kind of chair you can imagine in our camps. And the vote is always for Helinox chairs once they are used by one of the guys.

As to a chair in the tent.. . .we all use hammocks.. .which can also be used as a chair themselves.

Bill and I found a close out at Dick's on quite sturdy rocking chairs. We each got one, The rocking itself is set up above the ground so not the traditional style you might have at home. They are too heavy for the traditional travel routes, but sitting in them looking out over the lake is hard to beat. The perfect camps have trees which allow for moving them 3 times a day. Gorp and views!! Add in comfort and good reading, It hard to beat.

Additionally, I take a flexlite chair which I leave in the tent. I got rubber protectors for the chair which so far have kept the pressure from gouging any holes in the tent floor. Cotton balls placed in the receptors help keep the pressure points from ripping the seams from the stress of my weight. A LED light and reading in the tent is a nice touch to the end of a very relaxing day.
