Yes I agree.

Does anyone know if there is access to moon lake just west of Meeds. Is it Bushwick or is there a portage that I just don't see.

There are 3 sites there, two of which are nice but the one on the north shore towards the west end is not the greatest. You can get to Meeds fairly easily by entering through Lizz, then through Caribou and head west to Meeds. The long portage from Poplar to Meeds is a challenging one - if you like challenges it would be a good choice. Can always go out the easy way(if you choose Meeds). "

What are the two portages like between Caribou and Meeds? Thanks.

Easy quick ones. Sometimes a bit muddy. Very cool creek paddle in between them.

Sorry I didn't get back to you on the fishing, hope you guys did well. I have to ask, was the pile of wood you found left under the pine tree to the left of the cooking area? Just curious because that is where we left a big pile and find it interesting that nobody stayed at that site between our trip and yours. Glad you enjoyed the lake, we loved it over there. Nice and quiet."

Yes the wood was stacked to the left (looking at camp from the lake). Thank you, it's always a welcome site to see when you get to camp. It gave us enough wood for fires the first 2 nights while it was raining.

Fishing was best along the south shore across from camp and the south shore on the Western end after the islands and before the portage. It's a really great lake and will definitely return.

quote BigCurrent: "Just got back, we stayed on Meeds the whole time and we had the enitre lake to ourselves the entire time. Stayed on the Eastern Island site and was welcomed with a nice pile of perfectly sized wood, which was much appreciated. Fishing was great, nice campsite. We exited through Caribou and it was packed. Despite the long portage in, I would recommend Meeds vs Caribou/Horseshoe area. "

quote Nineteenpack: "I was just through Gaskin and Meeds last weekend and portaged in from entry 48. I parked off the HW 92 access but saw there is also an access off HW 82 I believe it is which is closer to the entry. The longer portage into Meeds wasn't that bad (Mud and water) but I did it in the dark so... Meeds was quieter with less traffic and the island site was nice with less options for day trips. Going down into Henson was pretty and the portages were wet with some mud but easy to find going North to South. Gaskin is beautiful and my favorite of the two lakes with many day trip options but a busy lake. I would suggest going east from Henson into Otto or Omega which is a beautiful day trip. Coming out through Liz is a bit muddy and was up to my knee's putting into Liz coming out of Caribou. It rained every day to some degree and all portage had water and mud but nothing show stopping. The weather was cooler than last year at this time. It was mid 60's during the day and mid to lower 40's at night. My watch said it was 50 inside my tent when I woke up in the middle of the night.

Great to hear, that is our initial plan. Hoping to get 1 of the islands, if not we'll meander our way down towards Gaskin.

Where did you have luck fishing? We're planning on bringing in live bait and a bunch of tackle.

I've been all around Meeds, but never actually been on it. Sure have appreciated the time I've spent on Gaskin though.

I have stayed on both Meeds and Gaskin, but only fished on Gaskin because we had extremely high winds on Meeds. No luck on Gaskin but we are only semi-serious at fishing. We got the great campsites on both lakes, the island sites. Gaskin site is huge but also loved the site on Meeds. We preferred the long portage to Meeds vs several smaller portages. If I went again, I would stay on Meeds for the quiet and scenery and as others have said, Gaskin for more day trip options.

I was going to say exactly what Lindy said. Only thing I'll add is I think you have more options for daytrips out of Gaskin if that's something on the agenda.

Heading up to Poplar in a few weeks. Either entering through Lizz or Meeds. Wondering what lake would be better for a short 3 night basecamp trip, Meeds or Gaskin?

Our main focus is relaxing, fishing and exploring in that order. Any opinions on either of those lakes?
