Nice report. I love to see those kids out there having a blast!

You're welcome, Danny. I'll bet all your kids have incredible character and resilience because of the experiences they have enjoyed with you. Inspirational.

SaganagaJoe,

I have to say, the wind that day on Seagull was pretty impressive. We were very grateful to have found a site that offered some shelter. I appreciate the offer to have shared. If our last chance at a site had come up short the plan was to resort to begging to see if we could share one :).

This my second trip into the BWCA. The last time I went was when my second youngest son was 10 in May of 2015. We had some nice all day rain events that tripped and got snowed on as well. It really made the weather this time seem pretty tame.

I am blessed to have a wife who is always up for an adventure. My kids have all been out on overnight backcountry trips from a very young age (my eldest's first backpack was at 2 weeks of age) and as a result they all seem to be pretty resilient and willing to roll with the punches.

Cyclones30 and boonie, thanks for the kind words.

I really enjoyed your pictures and report of your trip. I haven't been to those lakes and it just reinforces the need for me to get there. It looks like most of the kids except the very youngest are quite accomplished and capable of helping with many of the tasks. Glad you had a good trip, sorry you didn't have slightly better weather.

Great report and same goes for your pictures! Looks like a nice route, I've been on a few of those lakes but looks like I need to get over that way again.

We were out at the same time and in the same area and saw you guys at various points throughout our adventure, and were loading up our van at Seagull Outfitters when you came in. We had the aluminum canoe and took the site on Seagull right by the Alpine portage the day of the big wind and northern lights. Both my friend and I were completely impressed with you and your family and the stamina you all had as you conquered some of the most difficult weather I've ever experienced in the Boundary Waters. I come from a pretty big family myself and could never imagine bringing all my little brothers and sisters up north. You guys are the real deal.

We would gladly have shared our campsite if you had asked also. The wind really was a bear that day; we were grateful for God's protection. But the wind was the reason why we had as good of a northern lights night as we did. Man you got a good picture.
