My dog Jake and I are planning a 10 - 15 day trip into Gabrro/Bald Eagle area for fishing and day tripping - exploring other lakes. We will put in at Snake River. Any info about the entry? We are heading in Mid June - so water levels, or any other info will be welcomed.

P.S., It was great meeting many members at the Copia show and the dinner on Sat. night.

Bob.

The portage to the river is close to a mile but it's mostly down hill and follows an old logging road for the first half. The river is fairly narrow but is passable even during low water.

It's been 13 years, but I do recall distinctly that it lives up to its name: a twisting, meandering paddle is in store. As such, the portage landings can be a little difficult to discern... is this it? or is this just where some others made a mistake? left side? or right? can I go a bit farther ahead? or is it just as well we unload here? Our only notes on this route say, "first portage longer than marked on map." Lots of old mining artifacts to search for, mostly around the north end of the entry portage (?). I know that others have chimed in on this entry here before and probably have better info for you. I really liked it, although our group members are not big fans of EP rivers that are this snake-y. Bright side: base camped on Bald Eagle and had a blast with the walleye near our camp (#1723).

Love the Snake. Some parts are only wide enough to fit one canoe, but it is always deep enough. Fun entry point. Do the Gull, Pietro, Turtle loop. You will enjoy it.
