Hey Folks
I'm in the process of planning my 2017 trip to WCPP and was hoping I could draw on everybody's knowledge in my planning. I am thinking of a possible fly-in/fly-out trip to the Royd/Irvine area and doing a loop of some sort. I've done the Minjim route and most southern areas of the park in previous years. Looking for portage, campsite, fishing, best travel direction, and any other information you would like to add. Also wondering if anybody else is headed to that area sometime in August that may want to share flight costs (pick-up/drop off combination or anything else that might work out).
Thanks Much
Scot

You are heading to my playground (Royd-Irvine.) How many days? Fishing? Pace?
Seven days Royd to Irvine on the west and back to Royd using the east route would be a relaxing trip with short travel days with plenty of time to enjoy the area. If water levdls are OK a trip to the kidney shaped ponds on Larus Creek could be included. You have the option of returning to Royd via Poodle and Constellation.

Hey Marten
Good to here from you, hope you are well. I'm thinking 9 to 10 days on the water. I am going to try a slower pace this year compared to other years...I'm always in a hurry to see what's around the next corner, so I need to slow down and smell the roses so to speak. I like to fish for fun and supper so I will probably do more fishing on this trip. I definitely want to spend a few days on Constellation...love that lake. So you would suggest running that loop in a clockwise direction ?

I like the west side and would go up that way to make sure I had time to enjoy it. Three portages north of Royd is "Splitrock" my name for it. It has Walleyes and a nice big camp. Two more ports and you come to the "Starbucks campsite." No fish but the view is worth it. Abundant Walleye after then next portage and to Irvine where you add 40+ inch pike to the mix. Third lake south of Irvine is an unknown buts looks very interesting. Had a monster something bust my line there. Since you want more of Constellation take the Poodle option to get their. PM me and I can get you specific campsite info. GPS? The park booted the men that had a cabin on Royd for 40 years so I can point you to their summertime trout fishing hole.

Is the cabin still on that lake? I also heard that Royd is a good LT lake. I haven't fished it yet though. That all sounds like a great loop for a week/10 day trip. I haven't gotten further than Murdoch in that whole area and the Gammon River route south of there.

Royd is a terrific lake for trout. I was there a couple of seasons ago and had the best trout fishing of my life and that was in August.

This one? It was there in 2015.

I have used the campsite on the narrrows on the east side of Royd Lake a few times. The location is the best part about that site. Always a way to paddle away in any wind. The site on the east side of the big open basin on the south end does not look that great from the water but opens up into a very nice camp. Head out into that basin for summer Lake Trout.
