Just reserved a permit for Cirrus Lake. I understand I can pick up the permit at Beaverhouse, Atikokan or Dawson Creek Ranger Stations. But I can't find their exact locations.

Atikokan is the city where the home office for Quetico park, you can drive right to it.
Dawson Trail is a campground, area often used to paddle into french lake and eventually pickerel lake, very interesting interpretive center, you'll want to spend some time. if you like books... well, bring some money.

To get to Beaverhouse, you have a long drive in on a bumpy 1 1/2 lane road to a parking area, then you portage about 1/2 mile, then you paddle to the ranger station, couple miles, then you back track to the portage you need to get to cirrus.

Two ways from Beaverhouse access to Cirrus - the portage is just 10 minutes from put in or via Quetico Lake. I think you'd be slightly ahead by picking up in advance but I could justify going to ranger station as well based on timing. Plus I wanted to climb the fire tower behind ranger station.

If it's windy, you'll wish you had it before entering and take the near access portages to Cirrus. That's what I experienced and did. Keep in mind you can get the permit the day - or afternoon before entry. That might help.

Been entering Q at Beaverhouse since the mid-80s. If it were me and I was headed to Cirrus, I would pick up my permit in Atikokan. Absolutely no question. The reason is, as Bill mentioned above, the portage toward Cirrus is about a 10 minute paddle from the Beaverhouse put-in. If you need to go to the Beaverhouse ranger station, you're paddling an hour past the portage (looking at it as you pass by), picking up your permit at the BH ranger station, then paddling back an hour. Yes, the ranger station is a nice place to visit, but it's not worth it when you're going to Cirrus. And if the lake is choppy, then you'll REALLY wish you'd driven into Atikokan.

If you do go to ranger station don't paddle back to the that first portage - just head to Cirrus through Quetico Lake.
