View from Gobblers Knob Lookout at Mt. Rainier National Park, that's Mt. St. Helens off there in the distance. 6/2016. Can't wait for hiking season to start again. Cascades still have a lot of snow.

That's a great pic. Wish we had Whitethroat Sparrows out here in Washington. Whitethroat Sparrows and Hermit Thrushes are the lead singers in the wilderness soundtrack, at least for me. Oh and loons too.

This was one of my favorite evening hikes close to town. Begin the hike late in the afternoon and reach the lookout in time to watch the sun set over the Olympics. It only do you see the sunset, but the pink alpenglow on rainier snowcap behind you. Hike down by headlamp. Very few people around that late In the day.

Rainier is really a great area. Last year I did Rampart Ridge, Wonderland Trail up to Carter Falls, Lake George, Indian Henry's Hunting Ground via Kautz Creek Trail, and snowshoe trips on a couple of those trails and over to Reflection Lakes. Wouldn't mind doing Indian Henry's and Lake George again but I'm hoping to try other spots this year.
And speaking of Rainier, here's a picture from my snowshoe over to Reflection Lake earlier this year:

Did a 13+/- mile hike in the Olympics yesterday, we were thwarted by about 8 feet of snow and no clear boot path, so we couldn't get to the lakes we wanted to get to, but we still had a good time.

I think that is one of the best duck photos I've ever seen? Spectacular!"
Thanks.
Lots of stuff hatching in the last few days. This brood was on a small island hiding the best they could, the hen was pretty frantic, there was an eagle sitting right above them. I got my camera ready. Then she took the brood towards the mainland, about a hundred yards away. I thought for sure I was going to capture an eagle picking one of these guys off. He watched them the whole way and made no attempt. Not sure why, they had to be easy pickings. Maybe my presence was enough of a distraction.

wow, very nice photos this past week!
spending a few days on the gunflint trail after a recent trip to Cherokee. so far, there have been 8 different bears sited: mom and twins, mom and triplets and this yearling. and this is just in a 5 mile section around gunflint lake! down the trail near the bearskin and clearwater roads there have been more sitings.

no expert but like the reflections. i'm also a sucker for baby anything photos and at first the ducks were my favorite... then i saw the baby geese... oh, really nice. looks like they are so light and fluffy just sitting on top of that algae
