I like to post this at the start of the summer just as a reminder. Fire danger rating right know back there is low. However, a few warm dry days and some wind and things can change quickly.

A very good post for the beginning of the year, and let's not forget that 3 million acres have burned so far in the Southeast and Southwest US, so far this year.

I found two unattended campfires today on patrol and made 75 Smokey Bear contacts passing out 150 bucks worth of Smoky Bear Goodies.
Alaskans are really careless with fires and litter. Last week 25% of my campers left their fires burning, those are the ones I found.

I did this wildfire information outreach last weekend.
We gave away White Spruce and Larch to reseed areas damaged by the last two big fires we had, burning over 210,000 acres in the last 3 years on the Kenai Peninsula of AK.
Smoky Bear was all bulked up for this event.

wondering what the response is from people when you educate them to put OUT their fires? why does this seem to not be a big deal to them to leave their fires burning?

LT3 they did the burn on Wanless Rd, it went ok! It was on the Hogback lake end, not by your land. T60N R7W Section 29; along the Wanless Road (FS Road 172) just west of Elixir Lake; Total Acres = 143 acres in 4 separate units.

9 times out of 10 I have no campfire. Everyone should try it. See what your missing and not hearing. Besides the smoke is worse for you then tobacco. Let your eyes adjust to the dark and just listen.

I like a camp fire as much as anybody, but I'll forgo it a lot unless I have the time to be with it. Kind of like ellahalli says... try just enjoying your surroundings.
Been quiet here for fires... knock on wood...

I'm bumping this post up as many of us, myself included, are heading into the BW soon and need to review tips on forest fire safety.
