I'd probably wait as long as possible, but it would probably be OK. Somebody who has done it/knows more will likely respond.
At any rate, you might want to consider getting some of the desiccant packs/oxygen absorbers that are normally packed inside the meals.

How are you repackaging it? Are you just putting it into ziplock freezer bags or are you vac sealing them? I have divided up large cans of MH meals and vac sealed them with no O2 absorber in them. They have lasted for 4-5 yrs with no problems. Using just a Ziploc freezer bag I would wait till closer to the time you are going to go and then repackage.

I could do either. I'd probably rather have the ability to reseal them during rehydration so maybe I'll wait. Plenty of other crap to organize anyway. Lol
Thanks guys!

If you're going to rehydrate them in the bag, you'll definitely want ziplocks. If you haven't done that before, you'll want cozies to put the freezer bags in to keep the food warm while it rehydrates. I assume you decided to go with individually sized portions for you and your husband . . . ?

Yes, if they were in cans. Some are 2-serving sized already and I left those alone but added another baggie to separate in it camp. Or maybe I will bring a plate for those....yes, I should do that. Anyway, for the food from the cans, I made separate servings for each of us in freezer bags, with John getting a larger portion than me. I hope I figured out the water needs correctly. Yes, we have cozies. I do mostly freezer bag cooking; this is the first time I'm bringing prepared freeze dried meals (I used to make my own but knew this time I would not have time)

Have a good trip!
I've transferred some in the field, but it's easier to do at home, especially for someone as fumble fingered as me ;).
I've found that most recommend enough water and maybe a tad more than I'd prefer rather than the other way around.
