I've been trying to contact friends of Wabakimi for over a week and my emails get bounced back. Looks like the problem is on their end. If anybody from the friends is monitoring this forum I thought you'd like to know. I wanted to order another map book but my departure date is approaching and I'm afraid it may be too late. Does anyone know whether the books are available in Thunder Bay at a retailer? I'll be passing through from montana in a week and a half. Thanks, mark

Rtallent or I believe deerfoot are the members you want to contact via their email envelope below their screen names. These guys in Thunder Bay have the planning map which isn't much good for the backcountry because it's not tyvek and doesn't have the portage detail you are looking for. There's obviously mytopos but it won't have portage detail either.

You could try dropping by Uncle Phil's place, there is usually someone there running/monitoring the trips in progress if I understood their operations correctly.

As a last ditch effort, I think the maps are available for download off the wabakimi site. I've printed them out on tyvek paper before using the adobe software. It's better than nothing -- just my two cents.

You also could get on myccr and post with the title of wabakimi maps asking for "voyageur". I believe that's Uncle Phil's handle. He usually responds quickly to all things Wabakimi.

Thanks Highndry, I don't see any options for downloading map book pages on their site anywhere other than the overview maps. I've had a good look around that site and don't see that as an option. If you know otherwise, please share. I've ordered a map books by mail in the past and that seems to be the only option available. I'll try the CCR website to see if I can get a reply from Phil.

I think you're right. I have the overview maps for volumes 1 through 4. I usually pick up the booklet I need at Canoecopia whenever I'm there. I have a retail sales form that's blank but I think you can get them off the website. I'll keep digging for a phone number. If I can find one, I'll send you a pm with the info. MK, Let me know if I can help, either by giving contact info for Uncle Phil (Cotton) or providing route info for a particular route. I have one full set of the books but none for sale. However, Phil usually has a bunch for sale stored at his abode in Thunder Bay, and he is a great guy to chat with, besides. I suspect FOW site is on idle because the manager for that is in the bush. Hi Ray, the only thing I really need to fill in my route is the portage info for the section between Caribou Lake and Funger Lake. I have the mapbooks for the other areas I'll be travelling. I posted a question in the next thread down, and If you could take a quick look at the map I made I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your help, Mark

Try calling Phil Cotton (Uncle Phil) at 807-577-1816. Try to call during the week as he is busy from Friday afternoon through Sunday while his crews are switching out. They stay at his house coming and going from their one week trips. He has an inventory of map books on hand and so should be able to get you what you need.
