That's a great time to see the leaves changing. Short days though. How do you plan to spend your time? Stay at one site the whole time? I soloed once that late in the year and had a hard time dealing with all the darkness.

TomT My 1st solo was a week later and was a loop trip. I was moving nearly everyday, so much of my time was spent breaking camp, traveling, and making camp. I got tired of making/breaking camp so much. I decided, that for my next solo, I would base camp, day trip from there, and fish more. Much of my time will be spent exploring and fishing. One of the things I enjoyed doing in camp on my 1st solo was carving. I'll take my carving knife and a small piece of basswood, look for some carving wood along the way, and carve while in camp. I have taken carving lessons since my 1st solo, so the results should be better, emphasis on should. I will also do some birding.
My first solo report, btw, you commented on it!

I hear ya. I also don't enjoy setting up and packing up. I've slowly changed from one or two layovers on a 10 night trip to this Sept. I hope to make 5 camps over 10 nights. Looking forward to a three night stay probably on Camel with daytrips to Veron and then Cub for fishing/exploring.
Three nights in any one place is my max stay because then I get the itch to see new things. But packing up and paddling most of the day and then setting up gets tiring. Have fun and I hope you do a report.
If you get the itch for some safe cliff jumping, paddle over to "The Rock". It's in the section south of the northernmost bay and marked on the map. It's a shear dropoff into 23 feet of water. In the video it was about 8:30 in the morning and I was completely dry before jumping.
