I've never been in these parts before. I'm thinking about grabbing this permit for a late September trip. Has anyone been through this area before? Has anyone gone through this EP to Snipe?
I'm looking for some nice scenery and the ability to catch walleyes!

Thanks!

Not exactly walleye central.

I can't tell you anything about fishing, but I've been to Snipe from Cross Bay, from Snipe to Tuscarora via Copper and Howl, beyond Tuscarora to Mora/Little Sag, and back out through Tuscarora and Missing Link to Round Lake, and a 1-mile walk to Cross Bay. That was a nice trip; you might enjoy something similar. The only difference there is I didn't go from Missing Link to Snipe or vice versa, but that's only a small difference and one moderate portage from Missing Link to Snipe.

Snipe is a scenic little lake and Tuscarora is nice too. Some interesting travel from Snipe to Tuscarora through Copper and the "Howl Swamp" - a less-traveled area with a couple of flooded sections of portage. If you have enough time and favorable conditions, a trip from Tuscarora down to Mora/Little Sag will worthwhile; Little Sag is quite nice. The two portages from Tuscarora to Missing Link to Round are long. There's a pretty good climb out of Tuscarora to start - check the contour lines on the map. But I don't think any of that will scare you off - I survived it, and I'd do it again. I liked it.

I went from Missing Link to Cherokee and then back out to Cross River Access in June of 2016. It was a 10 day with 6 easy travel days and 3 days on Cherokee and on extra day on Long Island Lake.

You didn't mention how many days you had for this trip. Long Island would be a hard day travel from Round, but an easy two day. I am not a fisherman, but I believe Long Island Lake would be a good destination. If you based on LIL, Cherokee could be a day trip. Portages are a little easier going out through Ham to Cross River access, though some of the landings are bouldery. Its a short hike back to your car at Round Lake. I like going in one way and coming out the other. Snipe is a wonderfully scenic lake that I wouldn't want to miss.

I like this area. It is very scenic, has some old forest, some pretty nice campsites and lots of wildlife.

According to the MN DNR fisheries surveys the lakes around this EP do not have walleye.
Although the wording of the survey does imply the possibility on Snipe: "A FEW NORTHERN PIKE MAY BE PRESENT, BUT NONE WERE TAKEN IN THIS SURVEY. WALLEYE, WHICH ARE PRESENT DOWNSTREAM IN THIS WATERSHED, HAVE APPARENTLY BEEN UNABLE TO REACH SNIPE LAKE." (1987 Survey)

We caught northerns on spoons tipped with salted minnows in Tuscarora and Crooked Lake after entering from Missing Link 4 days ago. These lakes are more well known for lake trout which I've read can pick up again in the fall when they aren't so deep.

Tuscarora is scenic and has pretty nice campsites. I wish I had spent more time fishing Crooked with all of its islands and bays. It looked like a lot of fun to explore. Not the easiest trek in and the fishing wasn't on fire but we had a ton of fun and ate our share of fish tacos.

Change your ep to cross bay (50 I believe), plenty of walleye on Ham lake and cross bay lake......not so much beyond that.....
