My brother-in-law passed away suddenly about two weeks ago. Now my sister has a half(?) finished cedar strip canoe in her garage. I would like to post it for sale on this site in the "Items for Sale or Wanted" section. I will list it as a "Winter Project". I will be going to her home on Thursday. I will be taking pictures but would like to know what information may be critical or helpful in my posting.
He was only 59 when he had the heart attack. This was his second or third canoe that he built.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear this. My condolences to your family.

Is there anything of importance regarding this canoe? That is, is it just something to clear out or is there personal significance to it?

Obviously the specs/model of the canoe is important - length, width, etc. How much is completed? What are the materials - type of wood strips, weight of fiberglass, type of epoxy resin? What finishing items are done/included - seats, thwarts, yoke, gunnels, deck plates, etc.

A complete list of all materials/items included, model/specs, pictures, pick up location, price, and any special requests from the family is what I'd look for.

To be 100% honest. I think you'll have trouble selling it for anything worth your time. MAYBE a few hundred if even that.

The epoxy is the most expensive part so if that's been purchased, then maybe you can sell that with the rest for a few hundred.

It'll be tough to pick up because I'm not sure how you transport a half finished canoe on a strongback unless someone's got a big darn trailer.

I'm just being realistic- very sorry for your loss as well.

Thanks, I am really looking for a realistic assessment. The canoe still needs more wood working so it is not yet ready for epoxy. My goal is to get it out of the garage and hopefully get it to someone who would like to try and finish it. I have wondered about moving it but I just don't want to see it end up as firewood.

Post some pictures when you get them. I'd be interested in seeing what needs to be finished before it could be moved.

I want to thank everyone for their help and input. Turns out there are two people that my sister works with that are interested in taking the canoe.
This would have been a huge project. The canoe was left unfinished for three years. Other than the cedar strips no other supplies had been bought. Not sure what design he was using but the strong back and forms were all homemade.
This would have been his seventh canoe, I never paddled any but the one I saw was very nice. Two of the seven were birch bark. He also taught a small class in birch bark canoe building somewhere.
