In 3 weeks at this time, I will be a couple lakes into my first solo trip! I am beyond excited! Now that I have my permit booked, and a canoe and PLB rented, I'm ready to roll! I have packed and re packed my bag for the trip a couple times already, and I'm sure I will keep doing it again over he next few weeks...

This will be my third time to the BWCA, and both the previous two times I felt unable to do what I wanted due to group limitations. On this trip, I'm going to stay put if I want, or cover as much ground as I can handle depending on my mood! I don't have to worry about cooking anything fancy for others taste buds, and can get up early without the usual trouble of waking others up before they're ready. The freedom and lack of need to concern myself with others is going to be the most rewarding part of this trip!

From Sept. 29 - Oct. 2 I will be in at EP 23 on Mudro. Depending on weather, would like to do loop from Fourtown up to Fairy, Gun, and Moose Camp. Also want to end by cutting over to Horse to fish and come back thru Tin Can Mike and Sandpit on the way out. Of course, this is weather dependent, and I'm not going to push too hard considering the risks involved with soloing.

Ive frequently went out to the woods for solo hunting weekends in Northern Minnesota, but never thought to do a solo in the BWCA. To all on this site, you inspired me. For that, I applaud you all and the great information resource that this site is.

I am heading up for a short 3 night trip early Sunday. My only concern is darkness. I don't sleep long when I sleep so - what to do in semi -darkness? Man I shoulda learned to read. ;)

Have fun............. solo tripping can be addicting. My 1st solo was more or less to "see if I could do it" and I loved it so much that I've done one each year the last 4 years.

I'm excited for you: this echoes my first solo trip (also mudro, also September) a few years ago. If you are interested, I discussed some of the feelings/ challenges in a Report of that trip. Good luck and have fun: it is YOUR trip after all- make it however you like.

I tried to send you an email, not sure if it went through, if not, email me - I have I have soloed most of the area you are tripping through and can offer portage, camping and fishing info.

Have a great trip!

Bob.

First off, you are an excellent story teller! Nice work with that report!

Thanks for the info, I will definitely heed some of the advice from there!
