I recently completed a two week solo trip that started on Irvine and ended at Royd with a side trip to Gammon. I took the west side of the Irvine loop while traveling south. The trip started on Aug. 21 and ended Sept. 4.

Unbelievable beauty, great fishing, plentiful wildlife (especially waterfowl) and solitude!

An absolutely incredible adventure!

I'll be getting a trip report out sometime in the not too distant future.

Just a quick shout out to Harlan at Red Lake Outfitters for all of his help on my trip!

............Mike

It is great to hear reports from this excellent portion of the park. Having had a lot to do with the area over the years I like reading that others find it as fascinating as I do.

Hi Marten.

It is a magical place indeed! I was somewhat awestruck at the incredible beauty and I've been to some pretty neat places around the country. Even the old burn/blow down area has a beauty of its own. I walked (climbed over/under/crawled through) the 150m portage that goes from a lake west of Irvine (it is now Lindsey Lake on my map) to Larus Creek. The jack pine and spruce are about 5-6 ' tall and it has some nice popple regeneration as well. I still have trouble believing that I could be on lakes with such beauty and great fishing and be all by myself.

I hope you don't mind but I took a page out of your play book and took a plastic pail (albeit in a 3 gal. version) along. Worked out great! Thanks for the wonderful idea.
There's an old saying that says imitation is the highest form of flattery, so there you go!

I'm already thinking about /planning for a three week trip for next year in the same general area. Are the portages that you initiated from eastern Royd Creek area up through Poodle in use as of yet?

I remember seeing a YouTube video of yours on "Why I Come to WCPP". This is only my second trip up there but now I know " why I'll be going back".

Thanks........Mike

Welcome to the bucket club, we will never need a big room for our annual meetings. I am surprised the portage over to Larus Creek was that choked with stuff. It was burned though so I suppose the snags are toppling into the regrowth. The route through Poodle is open for travel. Constellation is another great trout lake next to Royd. If you like to fly in check with Harlan about landing on Lightning Lake. Then you would do two short portages to the east to fish the Walleye on "Joey lake." After that head west toward Royd. Dunstan makes a great destination in that area too.
