thanks, Hobbydog! i love visiting "my bison" at Minneopa State Park, it's only about 25 miles from my home so i can get there by the time the park opens. this shot used all the zoom i had. i had to hike along the fenced enclosure until i could get a shot that didn't have so much brush and weeds sticking up. definitely worth the trip if the bison are in picture range.

Fall colors at 7200 feet in the Chelan Sawtooths, Washington State, October 2017. 16 mile roundtrip day hike to get to this spot.

so Joe, are you in an area that is far from the wildfires burning out there? this photo appears to have some snow on the mountains? or is that just the sunlight on the rock face.

Great shots Saganaga and Mocha!
Here is a shot of Kawishiwi Falls taken last weekend after we finished a trip out of Snowbank.

Believe it or not, that picture was taken in a spot actually pretty close to an area that was burning, close enough that this trail was closed for a while. It was a smaller fire, just over 8700 acres, which is small for this fire season, and due to minimal fire activity the trail had been reopened. The wildfires really toasted a lot of forest in my neck of the woods this year. I fortunately had already completed most of my summer hiking before the fires got bad and then was out of town during the worst of the air quality days. I live over by Puget Sound so the fires never threatened our house or anything.

Yes, that is snow on the rock face. I was originally planning to camp up that high and do a 3 day hike but bailed because I realized how cold it would be up there and not having a zero degree sleeping bag. It was at least 35 degrees, maybe lower, with a stiff cold wind as I was taking that picture.

that is amazing! is there usually that much water this time of year?

Thanks - one of the locals said there is more water than normal flowing... and we would believe it, based on all the rain we had when we were on our trip ;-)

Meet Buster. This guy came all the way from Denmark. Had him out exploring the area today. Trying to keep the whites from blowing out and still capturing the face was hard . Trying get him to sit still for 3 seconds at the same time the sun peeked out was even harder.

He looks like a cutie... all the way from Denmark, wow!!
It's almost like capturing the black and white on a bald eagle... definitely a challenge, but if you don't blow out the whites, there is usually a chance to pull detail back out of the shadows. You will get lots of practice with him :-)

went on a well-deserved driveabout today. saw wild turkeys, hawks on the wire, dead possum, eagles, and penned up bison, elk, goat and geese.
