I have discussed adding insurance riders to cover gear. I got a chance to check on it's coverage in use. Went swimming (tipped my solo), in Kenny Lake (Falls Chain Quetico), late in August. No harm done except my OMD EM5 was found on the bottom in 3 feet of water after righting and draining canoe and gear. While it is sealed to be water resistant it was not water/immersion proof. Dead camera! Called insurance provider who ran a claim. Replacement value was $903, depreciation $45, the value I quoted when insured was used price of $420 (EBay purchase used camera). Just cashed an insurance check for it's coverage of $421, and already have it's replacement shipped (Ebay used OMD EM10 Mk2). Not bad results in my thinking, guess I'll keep the insurance!

American Family, it is a rider attached to renter insurance policy, best of my memory I have $3500 of itemized camera equipment at a cost of less than $50 per year. There is a depreciation charge but as this was itemized as purchased used for $420, 1/2 the new replacement value, depreciation was not applicable. The insurance settlement check was $421 a dollar more than itemized purchase price.

PS: Received the replacement, and it works fine with the lenses I already owned, only 1000 shutter trips on the counter. bh
