Get Stu's annual Boundary Journal talking about his yearly deer hunt in the BWCA or close by.

Like any other deer hunting situation do as much scouting as you can ahead of time. Boots on the ground is the best option but not always possible for a trip like this so I'd focus your efforts to as much online scouting as you can. Google and Bing maps give you a place to start.

Try to figure out a food source and then look for pinch points on likely travel routes too and from the food. Also look for edges in terrain (ridge lines, where lowland meets highland, where pine meets hardwood, etc.

Also if possible try to look up harvest rates and estimated deer populations for the last few years. That should help you focus in on areas that have a little higher deer population. No sense hunting where they aint.

One thing I found up there over the years I have seen some huge scrapes and would hunt over them. It would be a relaxing hunt with few other hunters. You could have a quality hunt also by doing day trips just inside the BWCA or on the edge.
