Has any one put in across the road from Smye Lake and headed north
to Savant, looks like all small lakes till you reach Savant. Would this
route be doable for an old duffer like me? One last question any reports
on how the fishing is on Savant.
Thanks

Hoop, over on wintertrekker.com, might have gone that way. I know he has paddled west of the park some.

Check out this map

and then order map booklet Volume #2 from The Wabakimi Project.

That's all.

Smye to Flindt is not particularly difficult. There are four portages until that last one of about 80 rods into Wilkie (on the way to Flindt). Only the second one, a 19-rod portage has been unidentifiable for me. I run the rapids each time I've gone in. The others are easy, mostly flat or slight inclines. Mud might be more of an issue. Getting into Flindt is a one portage carry of about 50 rods if I remember correctly. Nothing particularly difficult. I've goin on to Gault and then Stump but haven't headed due north (yet) out of Flindt or headed towards Savant. Looks like an interesting challenge though and I'm sure the fishing is excellent in that direction.

Yes, the north end of Wilkie to Flindt has boot sucking mud right at the waterline.
Getting from Smye put-in to Flindt is an easy day's paddle for a healthy guy.
Getting back out on basically one knee took about 11 hours.

Somehow I blinked and missed you getting a bearpaw there James. Congratulations! Well-deserved. Hope the knee is all healed up and ready for this upcoming season!

Terry - Thanks. Of course, sit on my butt instead of paddling this year helped me post more often.
I wish I had been able to get out more this summer.
I do think next year will be better.
We have a tandem trip planned for late July or early August.
