The cold weather finally gave me some time to finish a trip report from my June trip in Atikaki and WCPP. It has been fun going back and reading my journal and looking at the pictures and reliving the trip when it is so cold outside.

Great report loved the pictures. Funny how you get so use to having something like a Gopro on that you forget it is there.

Very nice report, hobbydog. I enjoyed the pictures. I hope I can make it there sometime.

Thanks for sharing and sent you an email asking a bit more about the park.

Very nice report and really liked the pics too. It's a shame about the pfd and the go pro. Things happen and there's lots of details that go into a solo. When I have a travel day I always have the minimum of things to carry and clipping my map with a biner to my pfd kind of makes it hard to forget somewhere.

That was a fun read. Thanks for sharing.
Do you have the inReach with GPS, or was it a standalone GPS unit that crapped out?
A good example of where those backup maps are important to have!

I like your photos too- especially the cranes.

I had both the inReach and a standalone GPS (Garmin Dakota 20). The GPS was really my backup. I used it to keep track of my daily mileage and to save my tracks and waypoints for future use. The GPS also comes in handy at times to settle any argument between me and my map. The inReach has a GPS but the maps I had for that are basic at best. I had Topo Canada on the GPS and it was very detailed.

One tip I might share is that for this area and many others that satellite imagery from the ArcGIS web site is much better detail than what Google Earth or Bing have to offer. Click on the Basemap button in the upper left and select "Imagery with Labels". The neat thing , at least for this area was that as you zoom in the last layer is a fall shot where the previous ones were spring images. It really showed the differences in water levels between high and low. This was really good information for the rivers. When I was there it was somewhere in between the two levels shown.
