Just putting up a separate post because it looks like I may have this on my planning board for mid- to late-summer this year. Most likely I'm looking at late July/first week of August for about 8-10 days (smye most likely entry).

My buddy Pete and I are looking at the same time frame.
Maybe we could actually meet this year?
I'll let you know as we firm up our plans.

Sounds good.

I'm probably looking at two potential routes that I have been researching for the past couple of seasons and have still not completed.

Smye-Wilkie-Flindt-Gault-Stump-Allan Water to Brennan & Brennan Falls
OR
Same first half of route but Allan - Windfall - Granite with the idea of taking my time and seeing how much time it takes to make through the portages to Granite. Maybe loop back out via Brennan Lake to Allan Water to Stump-Gault route.

I've been to Stump so I'm familiar with the route up to that point.

I know the Wabakimi project went through that second route a couple of years back and re-opened those portages from Windfall to Granite. I'm not sure if anyone has been back in there since so that route may or may not be open or might require a bit of cutting to get through some sections to move forward.

I may need to upgrade my current Corona saw from a 13" to a 21". It also may mean only getting part of the way to Granite --- but it might be an adventure worth taking. There's plenty of winter left to ponder until Copia. Fishing will be good in any case!

OK. I have a 21" saw, so if we connect I'll bring it.

I talked to Uncle Phil about some portages and I think deerfoot about going further north up the 702 rd to Savant Lake-Tew route. I'm leaning towards this last option if I can find a suitable turnout to park my vehicle. It looks like a good route to get into wabakimi lake with an option to get further north towards Kenoji or even Whitewater. I'm still chewing on options.

The Wabakimi Rd cuts NE off 702 at 50.595990, -90.186471.
Then a logging road on the right goes south and east from 50.623071, -90.102361.
The end of that road seems it would put you about 200 ft from the water.
Entry point right about: 50.608093, -90.090236.
From there its a 3 mi paddle to Tew.
Is that the spot??
That would definitely get you onto the Ogoki River.

Yes that's the one James. However, the WP map shows a portage/canoe route out of Savant Lake to the west that crosses the 702 rd south of the Wabakimi Rd. There is a bridge that you can find on mappingsupport and almost discern on the google earth that is just below a turnout. From the turnout, there appears to be a portage through the forest down to a stream/river. It's a longer paddle to get back to the place you are noting, but it gets you on the water quicker and it would appear that according to the WP map series 3 that this is where you are intended to park/put-in.

At least that is what I'm thinking and it's only as far as my research has taken me. There may be other options. I'll check out your coordinates later tonight on google-earth just to verify. I'm also going to reach out to a buddy who has driven that far up the road to see if he thought it was accessible by car.

I just purchased a Corona 21" razor tooth saw as well. It was on sale :). Now I have to make a scabbard for it. At least I'll stand a fighting chance to get through some of the more obscured portages.

A big saw definitely comes in handy with some of that big blowdown.
