I was looking for something to watch and stumbled on this guy's video. It's really well done. I'm not sure where he went but just the fact he was solo with four dogs had me intrigued.

He camps on the primitive side of things but definitely has the skills. I'm kinda envious. I don't understand all the dogs, I travel with one and can't imagine bringing four. Check it out. 10 Day Solo with dogs

Thanks for posting this video. Really enjoyed it.

I have never seen a soloist trippin’ with 4 dogs before. I got a kick out of him hitting the lakers he caught on their heads with his fist.

He even cut out the cheeks of the walleye he caught for his fish fry. Ummm I can taste them right now.

Yeah, definitely on the different side, Tom. Beautiful country - I'm wondering where he was too. He takes me back to younger days in the 60's - seems to be permanently stoned. Peace and love, man :)

Yeah, he's very footloose and fancy free. That dog food bag had to weigh 15 LB's. I still can't get over bringing four. Seems the dogs would sometimes swim alongside him as he paddled the river.

And am I correct to assume he would have them sleep under a tarp? I loved the video of him getting under the canoe for the night too. That's old school Sigurd Olsen stuff!

I've never seen anyone punch their fish before. Makes sense. I always use a rock on the head before fileting them. I don't like cutting into live fish.

Good tip on the walleye cheeks. I gotta start doing that!

I usually use my needle nose pliers or a rock or thick tree stick to wack my catch for dinner. But hey to each their own.

T, the cheeks are the sweetest tasting part of the walleye. Almost tastes like a bluegill. You have to try it. Not much meat in their cheeks but oh so good.

My June trip can’t get here soon enough. I ready for a fresh walleye fry.

He seemed pretty mellow, laid back, and happy.

I thought, "Man, that's 40 dog-days of dog food; almost as much as Alan Gage took on his 40-some day northern trip!"

I get the impression it's one of those "secret" lakes that people don't like to name . . .

My dad always calls the walleye cheeks, the filet mignon cut from the walleye. I always cut them out, even on the smaller eyes!

He's got a lot of interesting videos. Definitely knows how to train a dog for the wilderness.

I checked some others out too. He said something interesting about the dogs in one. Someone mentioned to him about all the dangers and he said it was better for the dog to live free than be confined but safe. (paraphrase) I think that could apply to people as well.

What I really like about this guy is how genuinely enthusiastic he is about being in the wild. One morning he wakes up from sleeping under a tarp and you can see his breath and the bushes blowing behind him and he's all excited about "It's a great day out here today!!" I had that enthusiasm in my 20's and seem to slowly have lost it. Gotta get that back. This dude inspires me.

Also, I doubt he's a "pot head" or whatever. He just seems to be high on nature to me. He smokes a traditional old man's pipe too. The Sherlock Holmes type. I got one of those from my grandfather when he died. I might have to try that even though I quit smoking cigarettes 25 years ago.
