Going to be headed up through the mudro entry point for a 5 day trip at the end of may and early June. So far we are thinking of camping on horse lake, really looking to get into some walleyes! Anyone have luck on horse or the surrounding lakes and if so, tips for tactics and locations?! Thanks

I’m headed to that area around the same time. There are a series of islands on the West side that are about halfway up the lake (don’t have my map on me at the moment), but we’ve had some luck around there in the past. We usually are pulling spinners when traveling around. If we stop, we’re throwing slip bobbers. Almost always using leeches. We’ve had more luck up North on Crooked Lake, it is a ways to get to though. Good luck and tight lines.

Horse and Fourtown are crowded lakes. I am also going thru this EP starting June 6th but we make a haul to Friday Bay all on the first day (about 5-6 hours of single portaging). I've never fished Horse but I have fished Fourtown and caught a couple walleyes and smallies. Beautiful area like all of the BWCA.

Work the points on the west side of the lake with leeches under a slip bobber or vertically jigged for walters.
Also plenty of smallies in the horse river that will fall for topwaters and wacky rigged worms if that sounds like fun to you.

My brother and I are entering at Mudro on June 3. Finally doing the Crooked trip that we have been talking about for years. I have found plenty of information on fishing Crooked, but nice to know there are some areas to troll along the route if we are making good time.

Like tarnkt says, the west side of the lake seems to be much more productive. Done well with a jig and a minnow and for whatever reason, purple seemed to be the best color for me on the lake followed by chartreuse. I'm sure they'll bite on just about any color, but I don't go to Horse without either of these.

There's a deep hole (next to a burnt over island) about a 1/4 mile north of the river entry to Horse Lake on that western shoreline that may be productive. There is also some interesting structure north of that deepwater that has been promising. Just my two cents.
