Anyone on here planning or involved in a big trip with Scouts this summer?

My son and I are going to Sea Base and doing Live Aboard SCUBA...my daughter will be going to Sea Base with her Crew for Out Island next winter...and the other Crew I am involved in is going out to Washington state to climb Mt Adams this summer.

The Crew associated with our Troop is doing the Out Island adventure this June. Our Troop is doing a family roadtrip to the East Coast - Philly, DC, Gettysburg. A few years ago we did a family roadtrip out to Devil's Tower and worked our way back East.
Summer 2019 we have 2 12-person crews reserved for Philmont, starting to look into pre-trek touring options now. We live by Chicago so Philmont is very accessible via train, however it's a pain in the butt arriving to base camp after 1PM and trying to be fully outfitted and ready to hit the trail at 8AM the next morning. We're trying to learn from our previous experience and head out a day or two in advance, do something fun, and then get to the ranch by 10AM on arrival day.

Sounds like it'll be fun. I hope to be able to return to Philmont one day.

Our troop has two crews going to Sea Base in Spring of 2019 for the STEM Eco adventure, but they're looking to possibly change that when general registration opens on Friday. There are a few of them apprehensive about spending 5 days on a small watercraft. Evidently seasickness is a major concern for them.

Our Venture Crew will be backpacking at Glacier National Park this summer. I'll be logged on submitting their backcountry permit application in tomorrow morning!

All of the participants have been to either Philmont or the BWCA, and at least half have been to both. Great group of Scouts.

I don't believe that the ECO adventure spends the entire week on the boat. There is a day on Big Munson Island, and day at the environmental center and other excursions. Might not be as bad as they think.

If you have a decent split in numbers, Out Island or Keys Adventure might be for the more skittish.

I haven't been there since I was a young kid, but I remember Glacier being beautiful...you just have to catch it in that very limited season if your backpacking!

Ooh, backpacking Glacier sounds like a fun trip. Will you be going on that?

The STEM Eco Adventure is 4 Days on the boat, and one midweek day at Pennekamp SP.

But that's water over the dam, now. They talked me into snagging two crews for Out Island and swapping out the STEM Eco. It works out good though, now we have room for 4 more scouts to go.

A few of the boys, myself, and two other leaders, who all really wanted to sail are now looking into chartering a 45 foot sailboat and sailing out to Dry Tortugas afterwards. Doing a conservation project, and spending a few days exploring. Similar to the OA Adventure, but on their own time.
