South West end of Gaskin.

Anyone been there. I did a search and not much info.

Any fish in it.

Thanks in advance.

Any info would be great, as Airmorse is going to talk me into doing this either way on our trip this summer. There is only one thread we can find here (or anywhere for that matter) and it has no information other than people were going to go check it out.

Help it not be the blind leading the blind, please!

Uncharted territory.

Undoubtedly we will be the first to ever venture into this lake. Who knows we might see Sasquatch fishing for the Lock Ness monster with the pocket fisherman from his pontoon boat.

I wonder if he'll be using leaches or crawlers.

Hey Airmorse / Naturboy -

Did you guys make it into Larsen? If so, was it worth it? Was looking at maps for my trip coming up soon and had the same thought as you... making the short bushwhack over to Larsen.

Thanks.

Not yet. In two weeks. But am not counting or anything like that. Will report if we see the Sasquatch.

Well, I’m in that area in 4 days so if I get the chance to make it in there I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hey guys - Just got back last night from our trip. Had a great time. Unfortunately the weather turned sour on the day we were going to go into Larsen and my boys (8 and 10) were not up for bushwhacking in the rain. However, I will say that the smallmouth fishing on Gaskin was fantastic. We predominately fished the shoreline snags on the west end. The first smallie my 8 yr old got was 3.5 lbs. We were getting them on top waters, shallow diving Rapalas and leeches. No sign of sasquatch. Hope you have good weather and a good trip.

Sounds like you had a great trip.

Our experience of the fishing on Gaskin was the polar opposite unfortunately.

We did indeed make it into Larson without too much effort. Fished from shore. Lake looks like it would hold fish. Very scenic.

We just got home today. Fishing took a sharp dive downward with the rain on Sat/Sun and Gaskin just didn’t cooperate while we were there other than 14-16” Pike. We did however make it to Larsen on foot, and took a few pictures. I’ll post them tomorrow when I find my camera in my gear.

I wish we would have brought the canoe, as it was only 200 yards the route we found after reaching Larsen to get back to Gaskin.. We went the hard way to reach Larsen (canoe would not have made the hard way), but the much easier way on the way back along a well established game trail would have worked. We did bring our rods, and fished for about 15-20 minutes with no luck. The mucky and brushy shoreline isn’t real condusive to shoreline fishing, and after a few snags, we gave up. My guess is that the lake holds fish, but with the dark stained water and no canoe, it’s only a guess how deep the lake actually is and what might be there. It was a fun bushwhack though, glad we were able to pull it off fairly easily with a compass and a little help from the game trail.

Here are a couple of pictures from the northern-most bay on Larsen. First picture is looking to the WSW towards the main body of the lake while standing in the middle of that bay. Second picture is looking more directly SW towards the bay on the south side of the lake. The rocks out a bit from shore in that picture are where we were able to stand for a while to fish. There is a small set of cliffs towards the eastern corner, behind where the pictures were taken, that give a nice view of the eastern end of the lake.

The fishing was horrible. We ate fish once. Total lockjaw.
