This guy did a presentation at Midwest Mountaineering Expo and I believe at canoeacopia. Here is a link to his pdf download of his kit. Just for general info and food for thought. OH Sh!t emergency kit download

My everyday kit fits in my fishing backpack. It isn't as big of a list as this. But I carry all this when camping. I have a seperate kit for spring canoeing in case we (family of 5) fall in the ice cold water.

I heard this guy speak last spring and he was very entertaining (and informative). I really enjoyed the presentation. I too carry much less or a "stripped-down" version of his list.

Even expanding on this, I want to get a go-bag for everyone in my family... not so much for "bugging out" but we live at least 50 miles from work, and it'd be nice to have a little kit in the car with extra clothes, and items that would be vital if we needed to get home w/low resources.

Good idea! One never needs it until they need it!

we work from home but in the winter we have a well stocked winter survival kit with blankets and stuff in case we slide into the ditch. It takes the fire department at least 30 minutes to an hour to get to my house so I figure I need to survive with the kids in the ditch for that long at least.

I carry a flare in a water proof bag. It’s the one where you peel tape, twist top and strike, will burn for 10 minutes.
