I am planning a trip up to WCPP the first week of June. Besides me there will be my cousin his fifteen year old son and his freind. I have 20 ish BWCA Trips and they each have 4. Our main focus is fishing for Lake Trout and Extremely large Northern Pike. A few Walleye would be wonderful as well but the first two are the main focus. All larger fish get released CPR ( all Lakers over 21" , all northerns and walleyes over 19"). We have plenty of snow goose sausage so meat is not of any concern, trophy size fish are.
We are going to be doing a 7 day trip. I am leaning on the first day as a travel in paddle hard day and then set up a base camp. The next 2 days will be solid fishing. We will pack up -slowly travel- fish- and set up a new camp on our 4th day. Days 5 and 6 will be hard fishing days. on the final 7th day we want to get up and paddle out a pretty moderate distance.
Any good route ideas? What does it cost to do this trip? We have all the gear and canoes. Is there a bunkhouse somewhere for the first night? What is different about WCPP compared to the BWCA logistics and otherwise ? Any good trophy Laker and or Northern Pike lakes? Any good salmon fleshed Laker Lakes?
PM me if you want. I just want to cut down on the usual head scratching of -I shouldn't have assumed that road took me there or boy ...is that portage here or is it actually there. Ideas? Thank you ahead of time.
