Taking my first trip to Sylvania (my first canoe trip anywhere). Can anyone tell me if there is cell reception in Sylvania? I'll be camping at Coyote and would like to be able to text my wife in the evening to let her know all is well, and to tell her about all the fun she's missing. :) Thanks
PS yes, I'm looking into getting an Inreach since I plan to do numerous solo canoe and kayak trips as well as backpacking adventures but I won't have one for my Sylvania trip.

I have been able to get a cell signal in pretty much all of Sylvania. I have stayed at the Coyote site several times and have enjoyed it. It is one of the more isolated sites in Sylvania. That being said, it is still only an hour or so to the boat landing on Crooked Lake. Be sure to travel through High Lake, either on your way in or way out. High Lake is amazingly clear.
I set a goal of losing 10 lbs. this year. I only have 15 left to lose.

Good to hear that Coyote is isolated, that's what I was hoping for.
Yes, I've heard about High and I will definitely travel through there on my way in. I'm doing a 5 day trip and plan to explore most of the area. May even bushwhack into a small lake or two but will see how the fish are biting on the more accessible lakes first.
Thanks for your help.

I stayed on Coyote last fall for a couple of nights. Nice site. As others have said, you should have cell service. +1 on High Lake.
I'm going to Sylvania next week for two nights. 05/22 and 05/23. The Loon site on Loon Lake was available and I couldn't pass it up. That site is never available.
Since you have never been to Sylvania, the mosquitoes can be pretty bad. I was there 2 years ago over the memorial weekend and it was just a constant swarm.
I don't know when you're going, but if they are not too bad yet, I would like to bring the dog. I'll leave her home otherwise.
Any chance you will be back before 05/21 and can update me on the bug situation?

I live in mosquito country within a couple hours of Sylvania so I'm used to dealing with mosquitos but thanks for the warning.
I've noticed that Loon is very popular. When planning I had no help other than a map and I keyed in on Loon too. It wasn't available for all the days I wanted so I chose Coyote based on seclusion and being on a small peninsula. Glad to hear it's a good site. I don't mind paddling a good distance every day to get to better fishing.
As for contacting you about bugs I would be happy to help you out but I'm reluctant to post much personal information on a public forum. If there is a way to exchange phone numbers or emails privately I will gladly update you on mosquitos. Thanks

WIMike you also have the option of emailing movington directly, his email address is available to you with the envelope below his screen name.
Have a nice time in Loon. With how solidly it's booked in the season hopefully it's not getting loved to death. Share a couple photos if you feel so inclined, there's not a lot of photography from inside Sylvania on the 'net.

Yes, wanted to do that but my phone didn’t display the envelope. I see it on my tablet though, I’ll contact him. Thanks
I’ll be at Coyote but will share a few photos and a brief report post-trip.

Yeah, sorry. I got you & movington mixed up when it came to campsites. Have an enjoyable time in Coyote.
I hope movington posts photos of Loon. =)
