I went through there last year and couldn’t make out any sites. I wasn’t intending to stay there so could have missed them. It has a very wild feel to it. As it should. Not a lot of traffic in there.

The island has the best (meaning least bad) site. It faces south and has a good landing. There are a couple of the south shore west of the island and they have bad landings.

Alice Lake is distinctly out of the way, even though it is not far north of the main route from Kawnipi to Sturgeon. I reviewed my trip logs of 30 trips from 1977 until 2017 and found only once through Alice. My crew passed through, fished a bit, then went out west to Chatterton. We climbed down the upper parts of the falls on foot, caught a lot of smallmouth in the Rapids, then went a bit south, took the portage to Russell and camped there. Sorry I cannot provide camping advice on Alice.

There are at least six sites on Alice. The island is the best site. There are two on the south shore that were burned out about ten years ago so they aren’t great now. There are two on points on the north shore east of the island and the last one is on the West Point of the bay leading to Gahn.

Has anyone spent time fishing here? The lake is not hard to get to but my guess is that it sees very little fishing pressure. I saw a pair of otters last year in the north bay to the portage to Fern.

I paddled around Alice a fair amount last year about September 1st looking for a camp and the only usable site we found was on an island and it was not very good. We did a big clearing and grading job on the tent area so that was looking good when we left but the fire pit and sitting area were nothing to write home about. I may go there this year and fix it up a little more. It is starting to feel like a project. We saw a guy there who was crowing about the bass but he did not catch much and gave up and left after a couple of hours. We did not catch much either but it is a clear water lake and the bass were not interested in hanging out in shallow water where we wanted to fish. I did get a very nice sunset time lapse with us paddling to the camera at dusk.

Think of Alice as Woodside 2 and have some fun.
