Hey everyone!

Heading up for my first BWCA experience for an EP26 trip starting Friday June 8. Just wondering if any of the more experienced paddlers on here have fishing advice for any of the lakes we will pass through. I've been an avid fisherman my whole life and going with a friend with much less experience but a pretty laid back attitude as far as how we spend our time.

I've found some older posts on here with good things to say about catching on Wood and the possibility of big pike in Indiana. Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I would actually expect to catch pike on any lake other than indiana. I know someone has seen a monster pike there but the lake is very clear and most people just catch fun size bass. I've also seen some big walleye cruising on the bottom of indiana but again I would expect catch walleye on any other lake in the area aside from indiana and hula.

Wood is probably the best walleye lake in that area. We've caught them there just pulling husky jerks around the shoreline.

If you want to catch small to medium pike, or have kids along, the big bay on Wind can't be beat. There are smallies in there too, & we had a monster pike come up & grab a smallie right next to the canoe. Almost gave me a heart attack. So the big girls are in there too (well, at least one is).

Hmmm........we are at odds Jimmer. I consider Indiania a fine pike lake and if my pics were something other than film I would throw up a few pics. Pike are located in the big weed bed near the portage into Basswood. Some real dandy's there. This is also where the largemouth hang out.

Indiana also has some rather nice smallmouths. Catching them in the clear water is the challenge.

As per walleye are you certain what you seen was walleye? I have tried for them several times with no luck. Is there walleye listed on net surveys? Not saying they arent there, they look like they should be there but there is no good creek inlet for them to get in.

ill take your word for it and spend a little time pike hunting when im up there june 30th. Im sure I saw two walleye swimming together one spring. I could clearly see the white tips on the fins and I also clearly saw bass, no mistaking they were 20"+ walleye.

I realize this is little help now, but I caught tons of northern on Hula right by that large rock outcrop. Simply landed on the shore and fished right from the rock. None of them were huge but good eaters!
