Haven't been on this website in a while. Kinda miss all the knowledge, comradery, and opinions. Looking to take my godson/nephew (10 years old) in on his first trip next Saturday. I don't know who is more excited him or me. Hoping to get up into Pipestone Bay somewhere.

Looking to hear whatever you have to say on the topic. Good to be back.

You are not getting many responses to your inquiry. A friend and I went in from Fall Lake last year on this same week. We found that many but not all of the campsites were occupied. We found a nice campsite and had a good trip. The only downside to this entry is the power boats. They were mostly fishermen coming in in the morning and then going out late in the afternoon. I would rather camp where there are no boats, but having said that, they were not much of a problem. We caught a lot of small pike on surface poppers with fly rods but didn't have much luck with bass that are reported to be there.

I've camped on sites 1564, 1565, and 1566 on Pipestone Bay. 1564 and 1566 are huge. Too big for 2, and they're usually scooped up quickly because they are big and nice sites, particularly 1564. But 1565 is too small for many groups but perfect for 2. I've been on this site twice and it's a nice site. Close to good fishing at the top end of Pipestone and Jackfish, and near the portage to Back Bay, which has great pike fishing. All three bays have great fishing.

Thanks for the info fellas. I've gotten over the fact there will be motor boats on this stretch, the price to pay for conveniance. I picked this entry point because it is his first trip and the back up plan. Back up plan is my parents, his grandparents, will be staying at the Fall Lake campground. He doesn't know this, but incase he has a meltdown.

Hoping to do a day trip up to the falls, do a little fishing, relaxing and teaching him about the bdub.

That sounds like a really good plan. Enjoy the trip.

Welcome back to the site. As soon as I saw your name i said 'he hasn't been around for awhile' I think I even said it out loud. :) let me know how it goes. I have been thinking about bringing 10 year old grand daughter. Would like to know a youngster from the " Youtube" age does- unplugged.

I am interested to see how your trip goes as well. I am going on June 19 for 5 days. That is good to know about the sites filling up, makes me want to consider a tow. There will only be two of us so I am guessing most will work out. I figured if we were on the water paddling just before first light we should be okay at finding a site. We hope to make it to the top of Pipestone and hunker down a few days before moving. I hope you and your godson have an awesome time!

Trip was alright, unfortunetly my nephew wasn't impressed with the wilderness. But as disappointed as I was with his attitude and efforts, it was still great for me to get back into the Bdub. We made it back to Pipestone Bay and I have to say, the motor traffic wasn't all that bad. Definately a good area to take a newbie.
