We were planning to go to Pecos Wilderness in the Sante Fe National Forest but it was all closed for fire hazard. Now looking at Uintas in Utah. Anyone with any experience? Softly looking at Henry's Fork trailhead to Kings Peak and loop out through Red Castle. Very prelimin. 4 nights most of 5 days on trail - I say 30-35 miles my son says 40 miles.

Heading west in morning. Gear almost all gathered and loaded.

I watched a youtube of floks doing almost same route. Not sure what I got myself into.

Yes. Fantastic place. Highly recommended. Up until last few miles Id say not many people. Last few miles must have been 8 or 10 incoming groups.

Want to go back and spend more time.

I made it to around 12000 feet, my son went on alone to Kings Peak at 13528.

Very beautiful. Came back to a lot of work and havent had time assemble a report

Thanks for asking.

OK. From our campsite at around 10,000. We day tripped just to the left of the left peak, through Gunsight Pass at around 12,000. I went another hour but said enough. My son went on to Kings Peak at +13,528. He said an hour or two but I think it was 5.

Beautiful place. Half my pictures are of wild flowers.

I was worried about the thin air and even had gotten a prescription for ?? from my doc, but decided not to use it, and was fine. Even with lungs damaged emboli, I was fine.

Nice pic, the highest I have ever been is 14,500 feet, My Whitney in Ca. Highest peak in the L 48. I was 30 YO, in shape and it was still tough on me.

Me, too.
When I was 22 I hiked up north of Steamboat Springs.
I got up around 10.5K or maybe 11K ft.
I camped by a beautiful little lake.
But I was sucking wind and got a headache for a awhile.
It was quite a trip.

Hiking to above 10,000 is a challenge, and in my experience especially if you don't start trying till after 60.
