Help me decide the best time of year for my first trip to WCPP. Fishing is my main interest, and fewer bugs always makes me happy. I want to spend some time going after larger Pike and Lake Trout in addition to Walleye for dinner. I just came back from a week in the boundary waters where it was sunny and in the 80's the whole time. Too warm for hard portaging in my book.

I am looking at two weeks, but that could be extended. My biggest concern with a late summer trip is finding the Lake Trout in deep water by then.

Mid June. Chances are better for decent water levels. Best fishing. But it really is a personal preference.

I was just there June 3 to June 13, and would find it hard to believe there is a better time to go fish. Bugs were never a problem, aside from a few mosquitoes easily delt with using a little deet. Never needed a headnet or bug shirt. The walleye were eager, as were the pike. My daughter caught her biggest yet, a fat 38 incher on 8 pound test. We didn't trout fish for more than an hour or so, in Wrist, and she did catch a dandy there too.

If it says anything, my next trip is going to be in the same timeframe, next year.

The long days in June are certainly a big plus.

Are there any great smallmouth lake up in the WCPP?

They are in the Bloodvein watershed. They are considered an invasive species.
