I have decided at the last minute to purchase a Chrismar Quetico map. I'll be in the falls but not as far as Atikokan. I leave today :(
Anyone know of a store that sells them? Thanks in advance and sorry about the short notice. This came about after looking at a few of my Fisher maps last night and how the Quetico portages are just a general straight line between some of the lakes. Sort of like Fisher knows there is a portage there but they aren't sure just where it's at.

If you haven't already left town, Duluth Pack has them. Possibly Northwest Outlet in Superior. (But then, you probably already knew that.) Wish I could help you with someone in the Falls or Fort Frances.
Where are you entering the park? The ranger station may have them.

If you really want one, I wouldn’t wait to get to ranger station. They may not have any.

Oh got it. I don't HAVE to have one, I marked up my maps as best I could with portage info but it would be fun to have one too. I was thinking you were talking about my paddle across Beaverhouse since it's a gamble as to whether you can make it over if it's windy. That..is real gambling.
I've made it across without effort and I've been stranded half way across only to never reach the cabin.

Tom, where is your trip taking you after the BH ranger station?

Badwater, Fair, Your, Snow, down into Bentpine, Jean, back to Quetico. Permit is for tomorrow. I'll be gone a week in the solo canoe.
I hate Badwater, all I have is bad momories of the women on my trip refusing to go back for more gear on that portage after their first walk over it. I went back three times for gear on a trip long time ago. Spent the whole day in mud, corduroy, and their crap on my shoulders.
I'm gonna buzz through there and get into Fair or Your .

Great area...please report when you get back...Portage crew made some improvements in 2017 and we double portaged it in 1.5 hours, compared to 2 hours 10 years ago when I was only 63, lol. --Goose
Soloing is sweet, but a good partner is "priceless."

I made it out of the Q. The ranger station at Beaverhouse did have the map. I think I paid about $14 for it with the 24% exchange rate. It is a pretty nice map and was useful in confirming a few portages that Fisher doesn't have on theirs or has improper locations.
The Badwater portage was not that bad. Not like I remember it. I'll make a new thread about that one after I unpack and get domesticated again. It was a great trip with little wind and a lot of sun. Fishing was amazing.

Thanks, good to know about the ranger station having the map. I'm entering there on Wed the 20th and would like to find a 2nd copy for my crew.
Also good to hear about the portage and the fishing! Can't wait...

But Badwater is still all fished out, right? ;-)

If you are a member of The Friends of Quetico, there is a 10 or 15% discount on their merchandise at rangers stations. Basically all the merchandise sales benefits Friends of Quetico. Some nice booklets. I like the 4 areial photos of the park as well, though dated.

Oh fishing was awful on Badwater. Same with Your, actually worse on Your. Terrible...Awful.
On one of the lakes I was on I hauled in a 36" Northern on 8# line and no leader. He bent the hooks straight on my Rapala. No way I was going to try to get him in the boat. And I was worried about him snapping the line with a lure in his mouth. I got him to the canoe and got the lure out and let him go. I am so damn glad I used barbless hooks. Makes removal easy instead of killing fish. I'm not sarcastic about the last sentence.
