Anybody have any experience with going from the LIS to Little Trout Lake? It looks to be about 15 miles of twisty turvy fun from the entry point to portage. Doable in a longish day? 15 miles for us is a longish day, but not that unusual in our typical BWCA trips.
With the few portages I was thinking we may be a bit quicker, but beaver dams and the turns may slow us down somewhat?
We have a cabin on Vermilion and was thinking of getting dropped off at LIS and paddling back to the cabin. With a night stopover at Little Trout, unless we we want to make it a HUGE day (for us) and paddle back to vermilion.
That sounds like a great little trip! You're correct that it would be a long day due to overall miles and the twists and turns of the river, beaver dams, etc.
I do know Little Trout can fill up pretty quick, so that might be something to keep in mind. Either way, it's sounds like a fun trip!
There are a lot of twists and turns on that route. A lot will depend on water levels. Run into high water levels and you can breeze on down a lot quicker but come late Summer or Fall and you will run into more problems.
I would get an early (think sunrise) start no matter what you plan to do.
