New to hanging and wondering temp ratings on quilts converting from tent camping. Currently use insulated air pad(Big Agnes) and 30 degree bag. Mostly summer use, thinking 40 degree under quilt and 30 degree top quilt. Am I on the right path?

That's what I just used and the night time lows were upper 40's to lower 50's. Very comfortable. I think that would work for me with temps to the upper 30's.

Just got back Sunday from 6 nights hanging with lows in mid 40's I have the opposite set up 30* under and 40* top. That way if I need more on top is can be cloths or add a small fleece blanket to get lower temps. Can gap the under quilt if its a little warm. Gives me a little more temp range out of one set of quilts

Wish you guys would quit posting pictures of those bridge hammocks. I have enough gear!

For both summer and the shoulder seasons in the boundary waters I use a 20 degree (HG Incubator) underquilt. I will use a 20 degree top quilt in spring and fall, then a 30 degree top quilt in the summer. But that's just me......

Thanks for the responses. Based on these responses and looking at weights I am going to go with the 20* underquilt and vary my top insulation based on weather. Now that the kids are almost gone I can see doing more tripping in the shoulder seasons again. Thanks again

+1 recently spent three nights in my new WBRR and it was amazing. I used a 20 degree under and top quilt and slept comfortably with temps in the 55-60F range. And I used the WB silnylon cloudburst tarp. Love it!

I agree with your logic

look's good, i use a 30 degree uq, 20 degree tq year around, just fiddle with them if i get cold or too warm.
hammocks sleep entirely different since you are above ground, thin material, the slightest coolness. you can feel it.
