We're heading into Basswood Lake on 2 September for the week, probably base camping and fishing, both sides...I understand walleyes and of course Lakers will be summertime deep on humps, etc but what about Smallmouth? Pike? I assume just fish 10-20 feet off points, islands, shoreline changes, etc? Shallower in the evening? We plan on fishing heavier swimbaits and bigger plastics on 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigheads mostly with tie-able fly fishing leader material...plus a bunch of other lures and plastics of course as necessary...Should I bring my fly rod for any evening topwater action? I understand the weather is a factor, and we hope it starts cooling off to get fish thinking Fall, but who knows...I've had many trips since the 80s for June bass, 1st time in the fall...not sure why...
