I am going late July for a trip where we are going to base camp on Insula. I'd like to give my trip-mates a shot at some lake trout, since they've never caught any. Any place that is day-trippable from Insula for some lake trout?

I know that Thomas would be an option, but I was just there last year, so if there is someplace new that we could go, that would be a bonus.

Thanks!

You could push through Thomas into Fraser for LT. There are some other lakes north of there that hold LT, but that may be pushing it for a day trip option. IMA also holds LT, but I haven't been successful.

If you do make it to Fraser, try trolling some deep tail dancers in purple or blue around the mid lake islands. That's work well in the past...

Ima is a lot more work. The best you can do is to camp on the north end of insula. You could start trolling on thomas and spend the day going out and back to the far end of fraser no problem (assuming decent wind conditions).

I fished Ima last year and came up empty on trout.

Looks like Thomas / Fraser is the way to go.

Hopefully targeting one of the far north island sites on Insula, so that should help with the trip up there.

Thanks!
