Tim and I will be going on our annual group solo in a week from now. I was wondering what Paddles you all take for your solos? I normal bring a bent shaft and a double blade. This ear I was wondering about bringing a third. Just curious. Can’t wait.

I've never taken all three on one trip, but have taken various combinations of bent, straight, double at times. Go for it! You can compare all 3 under the same conditions.

I like a 57" BB Loon straight for solo. Bent for tandem.
I also bring a double blade.

2 is plenty for me, bent and straight. straight is bb, bent is sanborn, i do not push off with the sanborn, it's my go to paddle.

Seems like I've been alternating bringing a yak paddle and straight, bent and straight, and bent and yak. This year it will be bent and straight. My yak paddle really wore out my upper back and shoulders fighting headwinds on Pickerel last year. This year I'll stay in camp vs. fight the waves.

I bring a bent (ZRE power surge Lite) and a spare bent. When whitewater tripping I'll bring a bent and a straight but rarely use the straight.

If you use a kayak paddle with off set blades the unused blade cuts through the wind like a knife.

I use a BB Slice. Not the lightest Double blade and I do love it on travel days. But, I invested $230. in a 12oz. bentshaft (ZRE Rec) and it was my "other" paddle last year that I only used on layover days mainly while I fished. I want that weightless feel again while I travel so I'm taking it easier this year and will use it full time. I overextended my trip miles last year and paid for it through exhaustion.

My primary paddle is a ZRE rec paddle. My back up is a werner double blade - can't remember the model.

I like straight with a solo but have used bent. Have often taken one of each since you need a spare. Never tried a twin, just seems wrong...

Most of my paddles are BB, Cruisers. My straight tripping paddle is an Expedition, love the T handle.
