Hi: Your suggestions for the best Canadian route from I-Falls to Red Lake? Also, approximate time?

Thanks!

once in Fort Frances go east on hwy 11 to 502 take 502 to Dryden...
great home made sandwiches on the Couchiching Reserve at the Husky Station/just east of Fort Frances
great rest spot on Scattergood Lake about 50 miles south of Dryden...
take hwy 17 west to Vermillion Bay then follow hwy 105 to Red Lake...
great rest spot on hwy 105 on Perrault Lake south of Ear Falls...

enjoy the trip...

I recall about 4:45 to Red Lake once customs were cleared...

Oldzip's directions match the way I go.

Yep. That's the shortest route. But after you've driven it a few times, you might consider taking Highway 11 WEST out of Ft. Frances until you intersect with Highway 71. You drive north until you intersect with Highway 17 east of Kenora. You then head east on 17 until it intersects with 105 at Vermilion Bay and then on north to Red Lake. You won't find many services (or a lot of traffic) going this route, so its a good idea to gas up at Ft. Frances.

On the shorter route, if you are a bit adventurous, you might turn WEST on 594 (502 T's into 594 east of Dryden) and do a bit of "hill and dale" travel on local roads to intersect with highway 17 without ever going to Dryden. I'm not sure its any faster this way, but you get to see a bit of local country side.

I always take that 594 shortcut and then north to Oxdrift on three miles of gravel. On the way home I stop for a rack of ribs on the west side of Vermillion Bay.

Thanks guys for the info. We stopped at the rest stop @ Perrault Falls, that was a nice one!

The WhiskeyJack in Perrault Falls is a good place to stop for a bite to eat on the way. Lots of tasty homemade items. Really nice people and great music--sometimes live on the weekends.

+1. It's shorter and more scenic ( I've never stopped for the ribs though :).
