The campfire
At breakfast mix up a large jug of lemon aid and sink into the coldest water you can find for the day
As the sun sets grab your "chilled" lemon aid find a nice sit with a great view. Settle down and grab your favorite cup adding about two fingers of Jim Beam. Add lemon aid to taste
repeat as need

Getting it cold is the real trick. Submerged is an option. Without ice I’d also open it up with a splash of water.
That said, check out the boulevardier. Great drink that might be okay at lake water temp. Bring some limes and make a last word? Probably less luxardo and more gin as it’ll be sweeter with the warmer temps.
This would definitely work. http://cocktailvirgin.blogspot.com/2011/10/nonesuch-scaffa.html

In the bush we go simple...Everclear and lemonade or just whisky ( whichever whisky you prefer, scotch, mash, bourbon...)
At home we've grown fond of the Moscow Mule for backyard fires.
My wife also likes the maragarita mix from the grocery store. Its not too strong so she can drink 2 oe 3 in the course of a night.

Awhile back I was searching for camp recipes, and this drink recipe was at the bottom of the article. No ice required! I will be trying it on the next adventure. There are other recipes on the that site as well.

Mmm...Blackberry brandy, leroux jezynowka..now that is the stuff!
I looked up the Caesar pleaser...it's a Clamato tomato mix, just add water. That sounds delish, what's better than a Clamato Bloody Mary? Cabella's carries it here...
Wild West Caesar pleaser
Has anyone tried these powdered drink mixes from barcountry pocket cocktails? REI carries them. You add water to the fill line on packet & alcohol. $10 for 4 drinks. Seems pricey..but if they are good, might be something to bring as a nice surprise or just treat yourself.
Cherry old fashioned (add bourbon)
Coconut lime margarita (add tequila)
Fully dressed Bloody Mary (add vodka or gin)

Usually I drink brandy and water. In and out of the BWCA.
At home a nice alternative is a brandy cocktail. 1 1/2 shot of brandy, 1/2 shot of your favorite orange liquor, and 3 dashes of bitters. It works best when you use 2 different brands of bitters. I typically use cognac and Grand Marnier.
A nice treat is brandy in your tea. I don't drink coffee and got jealous of my buddy's Irish coffee on a rest day so I tried putting brandy in my tea and have been doing it ever since. Tastes even better when you use real maple syrup as a sweetener.

I'd probably lean toward a nice bourbon or Canadian whiskey, neat. But that Kentucky Toddy sounds pretty tasty. Definitely not something I'd haul all the fixins for on a paddle or backpacking trip, but something I'd definitely drink around the firepit at home, or on a car camping trip.
Here's a toned down version which undoubtedly does not taste as good, but would be easier to pack. I call it "Doctor's Orders":
2 parts bourbon or rye
2 parts lemon juice (can dilute this with water if you don't care for the tartness)
1 part honey
1 or 2 drops of orange or grapefruit bitters (can be left out for packing space, but your drink will be less balanced.)
Gently heat it up to desired temp but don't boil it or you'll start losing alcohol, which is unacceptable. Unless you packed a 110 proof or greater whiskey, in which case you might want to let some of it go... but watch out for whiskey vapors and open flames. Just above body temperature is perfect to me. 100-110 degrees. This also loosens up the honey and makes it easier to mix.
This recipe came as a result of a "prescription" my doctor gave me when I had a nagging cough several years ago. She said you can sip on a mix of equal parts whiskey, lemon juice, and honey. Who am I to ignore doctor's orders when whiskey is involved? Unless the orders are to stop drinking whiskey, in which case that doctor is a quack. So I thought it tasted pretty good, but was a little thick and sweet with honey - good for as a cough syrup, but not so good for a cocktail, so I cut back the honey a bit. Then I thought, "Hey... that'd probably be pretty good warmed up." And it was. Add a drop of orange or grapefruit bitters, and it's even better.

Honestly, I like a good red wine. To me nothing is better than sitting around the fire with a nice cozy glass (strike that) tin cup of red wine.

Backcountry old fashioned:
Bourbon
Splash of lake water
2 drops of mio orange concentrate.
It works fairly well, but in my opinion is a lesser way to enjoy a good bourbon.
Slowly sipping it neat whilst watching the sunset is preferred.
