Heading in pretty soon and we plan to base camp on
Little Sag for a few days. Any input on day trip ideas, waterfalls, overlooks, maybe some rivers, etc.. Looking for some options when we want to explore and get away from camp for a while. Ideally something within a 2-3 hr paddle time.

Thanks

My favorite area attractions in that area/lake are the lake trout. :)

Check out the Cool spots in canoe country forum.

The portage in from Virgin Lake offers a nice overlook. Also, i know there's a cabin on Lil' Sag too.

For day trips there are a lot of options - you can go SE through Mora to Whipped, etc. or head up through Tarry to Owl, Crooked. You can go SW towards Elton, then continue on towards Pan or turn W through Hoe. You can also go N towards the Virgin portage that Tuscarora Borealis mentioned or over through Gabimichigami. It might be interesting to trip into Elm Lake more towards NE.

Two ideas. One short and sweet and the other much longer.

Short and sweet - Don’t miss the portage between Little Sag and Mora. Beautiful little steam with iconic BW rapids.

Much Longer - Head northwest to Gabimichigami and keep going northwest to Agamok. Between Agamok and Mueller Lakes the Kekakabic Trail crosses the portage. Put your gear down and walk about a 1/4 mile east on the KT. You will find a bridge over the beautiful Mueller Falls. After you get your fill there continue north west to Ogishkemuncie lake and head northwest to Annie, Jenny, and Eddy Lakes. Between Eddy Lake and SAK is Eddy Falls. After you have visited the falls, if you have your fishing gear with you, try your luck on SAK, Ogishkemuncie , and Gabimichigami on your way back. Take care with your wind forecasts. Gabimichigami can be treacherous with not much wind.

Do people use the cabin?

It's a forest service cabin. Used by FS crews when they're in the area
