Good morning. Heading to Ensign for the first time this weekend. Mostly like pike fishing but like to take some time and hunt walleye and bass. Just wondering if anyone has been having any success on this lake lately? Also any pointers on good spots on this large lake would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have fished this lake about 35 days over the years. For Huge Pike you want to go the the north eastern side of the lake, concentrate on the shallow bays. For Smallmouth Bass you want to look for rocky points. You should have zero problem catching 18-20 Bass. For Walleye you want the eastern side of the lake. Again you will have no problem catching Walleye. Out of all of the lakes in the BWCA this one is a gem. Sorry I’m not going to tell you exactly where to fish because it’s taken me many trips to dial them in. I go back to the same exact spots every trip and catch a lot of fish. One trip I was paddling in the front of the canoe wearing my polarized sunglasses. I noticed there was Minnows swimming on the surface left and right of the canoe the whole lake, not kidding. Where there is bait fish there are bigger fish feeding on them. That’s why this lake is such a Walleye factory.

I caught an 18-lb northern in the northwest bay (near those islands), and some nice small and largemouth bass too. Just a couple walleye.
