I was interviewed for this two years ago and completely forgot about it until my wife found this yesterday. There's more members dog stories in here as well. Click the link at the bottom of the story to see.

A fun read and a very fine looking dog! Paddling with dogs is just the best.

Thanks. I went on a solo (no dog) in 2017 because my wife didn't want me to take her and I missed Luna the whole time. The portaging is easier with her because she gets so happy it's contagious. I just watch her having a good time in front of me on the trail and it would take my mind off the pain. When alone it's way harder. I hope to take her every year until she can't do it anymore.

I couldn't agree more with all three statements.

Just found my article in there, too. I had also forgotten about it

Here is the link

Note: there's really part of the article missing near the end. The paragraph after "Yet, there are some things that come from the sky that can't be solved with a poncho" should talk about how he is highly sensitive to black flies and we had to cut our trip short because he was so miserable

Shout out to Miss Molly (the author of these articles in C&K magazine). Her writing style is engaging and perfect for these fun articles. (I just read them all!)

Nice story Nola. My dog is very weird in that she doesn't chase wildlife unless it's in her back yard at home. One time in camp she was relaxing in a small open area and two squirrels started chasing each other up and down trees and around our camp. She just raised her head up and watched. Then, the strangest thing yet - the squirrels, in top gear ran right by her! Like literally 2 feet from her and she didn't flinch. Now that's a strange dog. But if you show her a ball or a frisbee, you better look out. She turns into this focused freak show.

Here's pics from September 2018. Playing fetch in the water and Luna with her new buddy "Magicpaddler".

BC's are a very special breed of dog. No other dog is more loyal, smart, full of energy and life, willingness to learn than a BC.

Enjoy your time with your special friend.

Thanks Airmorse. I remember that you have one also. Luna is my 2nd BC and I’m hooked on the breed. I try to downplay how cool of a dog they are. They’re not for everyone but she keeps me in shape. Loyal is a great description but Luna just loves all people. She doesn’t really ever play with other dogs and gets annoyed when they want to. She’s all about people and frisbees and tennis balls.

Esther is on the right. Jigs on the left.

I dont take them to canoe country.

I love the names. My Mom's dog when she was a girl was named Jigs.

This is Murphy my first BC. What a sweet boy he was. He's with our Aussie in the 2nd pic.

They are both rescue dogs.

Jigs was my foster. He got along so well with Esther that i kept him.

Esther had a rough start in life. She was locked up in a barn at a very young age. She escaped and was hit by a truck and had her hips broken in three places and a lower back leg fracture. Her owners at the time relinquished her to the rescue that i am now involved with. Then i adopted her.

Those are two good looking dogs in your pictures.

I was thinking of a rescue for my next bc. I’ll keep you in mind. Hopefully it’s not for a long time though.

Hey Tom - I am a few months late - but congrats - what a cool article man! Jake and I are working as a therapy team on the side and are thinking of maybe doing the Marshall Lake Loop in Ontario this summer - about 100 mile loop with excellent walleye fishing. Still putting it together. Tripping with our dogs makes it such a better experience.

Good on ya buddy - hope to see you at the Copia show this year.

Bob.

Thanks Bob, I’ll be at Copia sat and sun. See you there!

Thanks, NoJo. I try. I write for many mags, so I'm always shifting styles. Right now, I'm doing a story about "the design of novel fluorescence-based biomolecular sensors for underwater autonomous vehicles." Sigh. I wish I were writing about dogs instead.
